The Ethiopian Training and Development Professionals Association (ETDPA) successfully completed its school project at Dejazmach Wondirad Secondary School in 2024. This school served as the second pilot school in Addis Ababa for the year. The training session was led by Workineh Nigussie, Biruk Workneh, and Mesganaw Getinet. Feedback received from participants highlighted the significant benefits of the two-day session in preparing themselves for the grade 12 examination, as validated by our final assessment. The selection of students was a collaborative effort with school principals, resulting in the identification of the top 6 students. The rationale behind choosing only a few students, particularly the highest achievers, was due to the limited time available before the examination date. We engaged in discussions with the school principals to encourage these top students to share their knowledge with their peers and to promote the value of voluntary service. ETDPA achieved considerable success in inspiring students to engage in voluntary service, which stands as a cornerstone of our association.
First, the organizational mission, vision and what it stands for is great! and I appreciate the speedy progress of the organization in this short period of time. I am really impressed in the school project and it’s also a corner stone for future simlar projects and shows that the training school project can be scaled up to different training programs for students to be part of a productive society. But I have some doubts on the selection of trainees. You stated that you have selected top 6 students. I fear that you’re trying to prepare the relatively prepared students and neglected the ones that really need the assistance that are in a low and middle range performance in class who really could benefit a lot from the training compared to the top students. Students with low and middle range performance should be directly targeted and sharing of information should be vise versa with contrast of what you’ve stated above. In consideration of the limited resources, it’s very important to invest wisely and bring an impact that is tangible.
